7 Planets and Metals: Jupiter/Tin

To the priesthood of antiquity, Jupiter/Tin embodied qualities of wisdom, logic, education, and maturity. To those philophers of old, Jupiter/Tin was the planet and metal of the sages and scholars. Jupiter/Tin was a symbol of meditation and a balance philosophical view of life. It was believed that Jupiter/Tin’s energy gave them access to the higher mental planes.

To the ancient world, Jupiter/Tin was the preserver. Tin to this day is used to store and preserve food and liquid goods. Jupiter/Tin was closely associated with the sacral chakra. It was through the energy of Jupiter/Tin that relationships were sustained. This planet/metal, is connected to the fulfillment of basic emotional needs, pleasures of all kinds, the governor of sexuality, and procreation.

Magic rituals and spells use tin to promote abundance, prosperity, stimulation, and attracting what is most desired.

The alchemists of antiquity made an elixir called the oil of tin. Oil of tin, was used to treat the liver, jaundice, hepatitis, cirrhosis, certain types of eczema, ovarian cysts, inflammatory effusions, pleurisies, acne, and water retention.

In ancient Greece, Jupiter was personified as the god Zeus. Zeus was the god of the sky, thunder, and the king of the gods. It is through the promiscuous behavior of Zeus that a number of the gods of the Greek pantheon were brought forth. The gods Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Hermes, Dioynsus, Heracles, and Helen of Troy are all said to be illegitimate children of Zeus.

The god Jupiter was the main deity of Rome until Christianity became the ruling religion. To the ancient Romans, Jupiter was also considered god of the sky and thunder. To the Romans, Jupiter represented the divine authority of the highest offices. In those days, the eagle was a symbol of Jupiter and the eagle was also the symbol of the Roman Army. Sacrifices of ox, lamb, or a castrated goat or ram were given in honor of Jupiter.

To the alchemist, of today, Jupiter/Tin is connected with growth, the metabolic system, the liver, the tongue, saliva and the nutrients given to the blood through food. It is the goal of the alchemist, to balance the jovial energy of Jupiter with the reality of life. Although Jupiter gives feelings of cheerfulness, expansiveness, and access to powerful spiritual forces, it can also make the alchemist inflated and shallow. This imbalance can cause the alchemist to blame others for their mistakes and the alchemist will lack the depth necessary to use the spiritual power given by Jupiter/Tin. It is believed that when the alchemist can bring together the masculine energy of Jupiter and the feminine energy of mercury, that the combination will bring about deeper insight into the alchemist’s role in the universe, giving him or her an intimate understanding of the great mysteries of life and transforming them into a spiritual master.
